The year-long whole-class brass teaching will continue throughout the school year for the entire year group. however, from January, pupils who have particularly enjoyed their musical journey so far and would like the opportunity to do more will be invited to join an optional After School Brass Band. This provides an additional opportunity to develop their playing, while ensuring that participation in the after-school programme is not a requirement for taking part in the main school teaching.

During the first two terms, these new players will be taught as a separate group, allowing the teaching to be focused on their particular stage of development. This will give them time to build confidence, develop their instrumental technique, learn to play as an ensemble and establish the skills needed to participate successfully in a larger band.

From the following September, the players will progress into the main After School Brass Band, joining other pupils who have already developed their playing. This creates a clear progression pathway while ensuring that new players receive the additional support and attention they need during the early stages of their musical development.

The programme will also provide opportunities for pupils to perform, take part in Academy events and continue their musical journey into the wider Windsor Forest Brass Academy ensemble programme as they develop.
