Hannah Griffin

Hannah has 19 years of experience as a brass player, performing in multiple styles from brass band to orchestral, musical theatre and jazz. She has obtained a BMus (first-class honours) and Master’s Degree in music from Royal Holloway University, with a focus on music education and performance.

Her musical experiences include co-founding and running the university brass band, teaching whole class brass in schools while working as the Education Lead for a Youth Academy, alongside conducting beginner and intermediate level ensembles. Hannah has also organised adult beginner brass courses and worked as a primary school music teacher in the area. Currently, Hannah works as a professional cornet and trumpet player both as a freelance musician and within the Army Reserves.

Hannah teaches cornet, flugel, trumpet, tenor horn, baritone and music theory up to grade 8 standard or equivalent and trombone up to grade 5 in a stress-free environment. Her enthusiastic, flexible and tailored approach encourages enjoyment and understanding of music and provides opportunities for a life-long interest in music. Hannah has experience entering students for, and accompanying graded exams through both ABRSM and Trinity boards (practical and performance).

Charlotte Handley

   

Rory Authur

Rory has been playing in brass groups since they were 9 years old and plays in a wide range of ensembles and styles from jazz and musical theatre to orchestras and brass bands. They currently study Computer Science at Royal Holloway University where they are the principal conductor of the Royal Holloway Wind Orchestra, and plays in the Royal Holloway Brass Band and “Unheard” Orchestra. Outside of university, Rory plays in a variety of New Orleans style funk jazz bands and orchestras, having played at venues such as Boardmasters Festival ‘25, Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club and The Barbican Centre.

Rory is a specialist in tuba and bass trombone, but teaches all brass instruments with a focus on lower brass, including the euphonium, tenor trombone, baritone and tenor horn. Their student-focused approach means their students get the choice of playing the pieces they want to play, as well as preparing students with the technical skills to tackle more ambitious repertoire.

Rory has flexible teaching hours year-round and frequent availability.

Drew Pritchard
DrewP-Tutor

Drew is a professional tuba player of 20 years, and has been teaching just as long. He earned his Master’s degree in music performance from the University of South Florida, and his bachelor’s degree in music from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.

Drew has a wide range of music performance experience, ranging from classical opera to jazz, and has had the privilege to work with a wide variety of groups, such as the Main Street Philharmonic in Disney’s Magic Kingdom, Universal Studios, The Florida Orchestra, and the Tampa Bay Opera Company.

Drew is also a noted music educator, having received the McGraw Hill Research Award in 2014 for his research in framing music around the concept of “Play.” This “Music is Play” philosophy shapes much of his teaching style, where the emphasis is placed on the fun and challenge of learning one’s instrument.  Drew has taught a wide range of students from beginners to advanced university students on every brass instrument, many of whom have grown into successful musicians.

Josh Whalley

Josh Whalley

Josh first starting playing trumpet at aged 10, learning under Bob Osbourne who introduced him to the world of brass banding. Joining Havering Youth Brass Band in 2014, Josh sat on the flugelhorn and principal cornet seats until leaving for university. While at Royal Holloway, he joined the The Egham Band in 2018, contesting on both cornet and tenor horn, before moving to a cornet seat with Wantage Band in 2024.

Josh is a Yamaha Music School teacher based at Dawkes Music and Windcraft in Maidenhead. The core philosophy of this method is that music is art and should be experienced with enthusiasm, nuance, and challenge. Josh has taught a range of students, from beginner to intermediate, on cornet, trumpet, horn, and trombone.

Laura Kee

Laura Kee

After over 15 years of playing, Laura is well-versed in a variety of styles of brass playing. In 2024, she graduated from Royal Holloway with a first-class degree in Music and English, where she held the position of principal cornet for two years in the Brass Band; she also played first trumpet for the university Big Band and Symphony Orchestra. She has gone on to complete an MA Music at the University of Bristol. Laura has great experience in both solo and ensemble playing, with past performance venues including several European tours and the Royal Albert Hall.

As well as her volunteer work for the local Youth Brass Project, Laura taught as a qualified brass tutor for Surrey Arts before moving to further her studies. Through this, she taught players of a significant range of abilities and ages. Brass playing has shaped the course of her own life and she is eager to share the positive influence of music with today's youth.

Laura is based in south west London and can offer flexible hours for weekend teaching; she is happy to offer teaching to all brass band instruments and music theory.

Faye Jones

Faye Jones

Faye has 18 years of experience as a percussionist, performing in multiple ensembles from brass bands, wind bands, percussion ensembles to orchestras. She graduated from Royal Holloway University with a degree in English and Music and a Masters degree from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. She currently works for the London Philharmonic Orchestra in their fundraising team and continues to advocate for education and community projects.

Having had the privilege of being taught a broad range of styles and techniques through her local music service, she understands first-hand how transformative quality teaching can be and carries that belief into every lesson she gives.

Faye has taught percussion at St Jude's and offers private lessons to adult learners, as well as holding a former tutor role with Surrey Arts Concert Band. Her experience spans a wide range of settings, making her equally at home working with beginners finding their feet and more advanced players looking to refine their skills.
